Meeting Background
Global climate governance has entered a critical phase of implementation. As the most economically dynamic yet climate-sensitive regions, China and Southeast Asia (SEA) share common opportunities and challenges in achieving a low-carbon transition. Strengthening the exchange of green finance policies and practices has become a core driver for promoting regional sustainable development and enhancing climate resilience.
As China enters the 15th Five-Year Plan period, its "dual carbon" strategy is accelerating. Greater strategic alignment and policy exchange will be key to deepening cooperation in industry, investment, and trade, and to advancing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. As one of China's first National Green Finance Reform and Innovation Pilot Zones, Huzhou has developed a "Huzhou Model" featuring robust standards, digital platforms, and policy incentives, offering valuable insights for the international community. With the advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative, Huzhou's local enterprises and financial institutions are increasingly looking to "go global," creating an urgent need for international cooperation on standard alignment in cross-border green investment and trade, and on environmental information disclosure.
Thailand has set ambitious climate targets, striving for carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065. While Thailand is actively building its climate investment and financing framework, notably through the release of the Thailand Green Taxonomy, it still faces funding and technical gaps in energy transition and industrial upgrading, leading to a pressing demand for practical green finance solutions.
This salon aims to create an informal yet high-level platform for dialogue, bringing together representatives from governments, leading think tanks, and financial institutions from both China and Thailand. The discussion will focus on the synergy of green finance standards and policy, share practical cases of Huzhou's local transition, and explore potential cooperation in green infrastructure, green trade and green finance to collectively support regional climate governance and green, low-carbon development.
